Cocktail of the Week: Pearl Hotel Hemingway Daiquiri

By Olivia Cuccaro

Hemingway Daiquiri at The Pearl Hotel

  • 2 oz Havana Club rum
  • .25 maraschino liqueur
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • .75 oz lime juice
  • .5 oz grapefruit juice

To create this cocktail of the week, add Havana Club rum, maraschino liqueur, sugar, lime juice, and grapefruit juice to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake well, and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a cherry and lime wheel.

As with many literary greats, it can be said that much of Ernest Hemingway’s creativity was cocktail-inspired. At The Pearl Hotel, his namesake daiquiri is a tribute to his affinity for both stiff drinks and the 1940s Havana pubs that served them. Featuring Cuban rum, the Hemingway Daiquiri gives off fresh citrus notes with an added sweetness of maraschino liqueur and sugar that may just spark your next great novel. No need to even jet off to Cuba — at least not this week.

“The Hemingway Daiquiri is an integral part of the Cuban culture we try to portray here at Havana Beach Bar & Grill,” said Aaron Slayde Martin, bartender at Havana Beach Bar & Grill at The Pearl Hotel, in speaking to Elite Traveler. “It was created by a notorious drinker, Papa Hemingway himself.”

At the upscale Pearl Hotel in South Walton, Havana Beach Bar & Grill captures the spirit of southern hemisphere bars stateside to offer twists on classic cocktails. Inside the Old World European architecture and black-and-white striped awnings of the hotel, the dignified lounge was designed after Hemingway’s favorite Cuban haunt, El Floridita, and features a hand-carved mahogany bar and sumptuous leather seating. Or, take your Hemingway Daiquiri up onto the sunny Havana Beach Rooftop Lounge for expansive views of the turquoise ocean and white sand beaches below.

Whether it’s time to write or time to rest, be sure to book The Pearl Suite at the top of the hotel’s iconic clock tower. Overlooking Main Street and the Gulf of Mexico, the suite includes a king-size bedroom, large sitting area, bathroom with rainfall shower and soaking tub, and a private balcony for soaking up the Florida sun.

The Pearl Hotel is located at 63 Main Street, Rosemary Beach, FL 32461. For more information, please visit thepearlrb.com.
