Recently, when UNFAO declared 2021 as the year of fruits and vegetables, it surely raised the expectations of wellness centers & resorts, who have been promoting healthy eating practices for years. Naad Wellness, a luxury wellness resort located an hour away from Delhi in Kundli, Sonipat, Haryana has been shaping and promoting holistic wellbeing for years. In conversation with TMM, Manoj Khetan, Co-founder, Naad Wellness talks about the core philosophy of Naad Wellness and how food plays an integral role in shaping the complete care of the human body at this 39-room property.
Tell us about Naad Wellness and its core philosophy. What is so unique about the name?
It is believed that when the universe was created, the sound that resonated from it has been entrenched into its very being ever since. This sound, known as ‘Naad’, reverberates through us even now and it has been associated with the awakening of one’s spiritual growth, a time when we truly begin to find ourselves.
This has been the inspiration for naming our wellness center Naad and its tagline (For a sound you), as the beginning of one’s journey to healing and holistic wellbeing, when we start feeling at one with the universe.
Tell us a bit about the various wellness packages offered by Naad.
Naad brings together the ancient principles of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy and makes them relevant to our modern-day lifestyle disorders. We offer a bouquet of experiences that begin at 3 nights and go up to 28 nights and include a combination of both experiential (Detox, Destress etc) and medical packages (Diabetes Management, PCOS management, Spine Care, Sports Injury Management etc). Here, each experience is preceded by one-on-one consultation with a resident doctor – we have both Ayurvedic and Naturopathic doctors in our team. The doctor then plans for an itinerary which is a combination of therapies, yoga, kriyas, and nutrition.
The therapies cannot be chosen by the guest but are rather suggested by the doctor in accordance with the individual body type and the health objective. It is customized to such a degree, that even if there are two guests staying on the same package at the same time, they may experience different therapies and different meal plans. The objective is to heal the body, mind, and spirit from within, addressing the root cause of disease and imbalance, rather than offering a superficial short-term solution.
At Naad food plays a key role in defining your healthy body routine. Your comment.
In Ayurveda, Ãhãrã or food is one of the three pillars of life, which plays a major role in both prevention and cure. Ãhãrã itself can act as the cause for disease and can also be used as medicine. Any variations in the methods of preparation and the combination of ingredients can lead to health
or ill-health.
The cuisine served at Naad is an embodiment of these ancient ethoses. All meals at our wellness center are prepared in accordance with the Tridosha style of cooking and are administered to guests to help balance out their doshas or bio-energies.
Meal plans are customized for each guest keeping in perspective their individual body types, medical history, and health objective. The food at Naad for instance is vegetarian, cooked in a combination of desi ghee and cold-pressed oils with ingredients that are freshly sourced from neighborhood farms and our own vegetable gardens on site. Moreover, only nature’s freshest bounty is used in our kitchens, which are in sync with the six Indian seasons (vasant ritu, grishma ritu, varsha ritu, sharad ritu, hemant ritu, shishir ritu), as recommended in ancient Ayurvedic texts.
Can you tell us about the unique services available at Naad, that sets it apart from other wellness resorts?
Naad is most unlike a spa or a resort, wherein the guest has the option of choosing their own therapies and schedule. The routine is fairly regimented, and we strongly recommend our guests to surrender themselves to the experience completely rather than fight it. Only then, will they be able to truly feel the difference and reap the benefits.
A few unique offerings are as follows:
1. Personalised consultation with one of our resident doctors.
2. Personalised meal plans for the duration of the stay.
3. A bouquet of Ayurveda and Naturopathy therapies e.g. traditional Ayurvedic ones like Shirodhara, Abhyanga, Udhwarthanam, Choorna Pinda Sweda, Dhanyamladhara, Shashtikashali Pinda Sweda; Naturopathy treatments like the Therapeutic Massage, Colon Hydrotherapy, Mud Packs, Cryotherapy; International treatments like the Thai Massage, Balinese Massage, Swedish Massage; alternative forms of healing like acupuncture and acupressure. We also feature unique experiences like the Turkish Hammam and a Himalayan Salt Cave (for respiratory and skin disorders).
4. Daily yoga sessions, yogic kriyas, and pranayama in sync with health objective.
5. Outdoor yoga pavilion and indoor yoga studio.
6. Fitness centre, guided meditation, on-site kitchen garden.
7. Mini golf and night golf facility along and library and reading lounge.
Naad Wellness offers a blend of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy. How are they interrelated in terms of human wellness.
The wisdom of alternative, traditional therapies like Ayurveda and Naturopathy date back to hundreds of years but are extremely relevant in healing and managing modern-day lifestyle disorders. This is because their ethos aims at the root cause and focus on a more long-term healing process. They practice a 360-degree approach that equally emphasizes yogic kriyas, fitness, and nutrition along with therapies.
Most traditional medical texts like those of Ayurveda and Naturopathy are an exemplification of a balanced, holistic life. These focus on strengthening us from within and emphasize not just curative but a preventive approach as well. Ayurveda and Naturopathy also firmly believe that each body has
a different composition and does not practice a cookie-cutter methodology. Even if two guests are experiencing the same therapy, it is customized to suit the individual body type and health objective. The degree of customization at our wellness center is such that even if there are two guests traveling together on the same package, their therapies, a fitness routine, and the cuisine served to them can be completely different.
How has COVID19 impacted the business and what measures Naad Wellness is taking to bring back the business?
Apart from the mandatory lockdown, which impacted all businesses everywhere, Naad has been extremely fortunate in terms of its location, which is its proximity to Delhi and the fact that it is within the NCR. People are preferring to drive down to destinations rather than taking flights and that has led to a huge inflow of guests from within the NCR.
The current pandemic has made people more aware of where they stand from a health perspective and they know exactly how they have been taking their health for granted. We have been receiving queries and reservations from guests wanting to know more about how they can manage and heal their current lifestyle disorders. Earlier people were okay to live with the disease and manage it to the best of their abilities. But now, they want to know how they can overcome it and even heal it completely. The realization is that their existing health conditions make them more susceptible to new ones.
Our guests who have been to Naad and have experienced the change in their health and wellbeing were our biggest advocates. We’ve had so many references from our former guests – friends, family, and even they themselves have reached out to our doctors for inputs and advice on leading a healthy life right now, how to boost their immunity, special care for kids, senior citizens, etc.
