And baby makes three! Priyanka Chopra and husband Nick Jonas welcomed baby No. 1, the couple revealed in a joint statement.
“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” the couple wrote in a note posted to Nick’s Instagram on Friday, January 21. “We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much.”
The actress, 39, and the Jonas Brothers musician, 29, addressed the topic of having children during the Jonas Brothers Family Roast Netflix special, which aired in November 2021.
“We’re the only couple who doesn’t have kids yet,” Priyanka said in reference to Nick’s brothers Joe and Kevin Jonas, who have children. “Which is why I’m excited to make this announcement. Nick and I are expecting … to get drunk tonight and sleep in tomorrow.”
Although she was only joking at the time, it appears the two were already thinking of starting a family together.
The pair met at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscars party in February of that year. They had been texting for a few months prior to their meeting, so they both already knew the chemistry was off the charts. That May, the pair walked the red carpet together in Ralph Lauren at the Met Gala — before they were officially a couple.
They didn’t see each other for an entire year following their red carpet tryst at fashion’s biggest night. “Our lives were kind of taking us different places,” Priyanka previously told Jimmy Fallon of that time before she and Nick started dating. “And the thing is that was funny is people would ask us, both in interview settings and in private, ‘Are you guys seeing each other?’ and the answer was no.”
Over Memorial Day Weekend in 2018, the duo spent time together during a string of dates. By the end of the weekend, Pri and Nick were an item. “They are dating and it’s brand new,” an insider told Us Weekly at the time. “It’s a good match and they are both interested in each other.”
In July 2018, Nick proposed during a trip to Crete for her birthday. On December 1, the happy couple — alongside both of their families and friends — tied the knot during a lavish multi-day wedding celebration at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, in India that incorporated both Christian and Hindu ceremonies.
Since then, the pair have been going as strong as ever — and they were even making the most of self-isolating amid the coronavirus pandemic. Nick and Priyanka “have been really enjoying their time in quarantine together,” an insider exclusively told Life & Style in May 2020. “They’re so used to traveling and being apart, so they’re really cherishing this time because they can actually spend it together.”
In fact, the new parents have been spicing up their time at home with fitness and cozy, romantic nights in. “They also enjoy Bollywood date nights,” the source added. “Usually they would go out for something like this, but at home, they make Indian dinners, and Priyanka will even put on a sari.”
Congratulations to the happy couple!
