A fearless jubilant leader in his own right, Mr. Mayank Soni, Managing Director – The House of MBj does not stop at anything and certainly does not believe in setbacks, aims for the zenith and settles for nothing but the best.
Born in Kolkata, raised in New Delhi, Mayank hails from a traditional family set up instilled with strong values and beliefs. He has been in the jewelry business for 17 years now, a business which has been flourishing for seven generations. Mayank has been instrumental in taking this brand to new levels of success paving a way for his other 4 brothers, fellow Directors of MBj Group.
Having completed his graduation in commerce, he went on doing graduation in gems and diamonds from GIA and Jewellery production course from Metallo Nobile, Italy.
An immensely well-traveled and well-read entrepreneur, Mayank has carefully studied and analyzed different markets, market trends, consumer behavior and practices among other things and tried to gain an understanding of the Jewellery Industry at large. At MBj, Mayank is deeply involved in the creative, branding and marketing areas.
1. What’s your jewelry philosophy? And how does it match with your customer out there?
The House of MBJ offers excellent craftsmanship, high-quality standards and an extensive range of classic and contemporary designs. Living up to its age-old values and tradition of uncompromising quality, unmatched craftsmanship and excellence in service. The House of MBj has carved a niche for itself among discerning customers not just in India but abroad as well.
2. What are the key responsibilities when you take up your legacy business forward, how do you match up with today’s needs and demands?
The key responsibility that one needs to take forward is maintaining quality and building the brand name forward. Styles and patterns keep evolving but quality needs to be a constant. The house of MBj is a legacy brand we are thriving to maintain our brand ethos. We are constantly mapping the changing dynamics of the industry and are in tune with the international environment which helps us to upkeep with world trends and build pathways for newer developments on the home front as well.
3. How are jewelers lobby got affected post Nirav Modi case break?
The House of MBj has a valued customer base and so the Nirav Modi case did not affect us as much. We have a legacy of 120 years and our customers know us. Having said that, the overall sentiment among customers takes a beating and so these incidents should have strict reforms.
4. New collections of “KANAKAM” from House of MBJ is really doing wonder. How does it make difference from other series of collections?
Kanakam or the temple jewelry collection was a special line we created for Akshaya Tritya and we got a fantastic response for it. We took orders on the collection and delivered them in a forthright. The designs were inspired by the temples of India and the crafting was very artistic which was loved by customers.
5. What’s next? What’s your vision for the future of your brand?
We have quite a few interesting theme based jewelry designs which we are currently working on. The master smith of MBj ensure that each products range is unique in itself. We are also expanding with branches now in Delhi, Kolkata, and Jaipur. We are looking for avenues of further expansion both on the ground and also digitally.
6. Whats your idea towards marketing/promotion/campaigning along developing sustaining strategic alliances?
It is important to correctly market your brand in today’s time because there are so many options available for customers. We have a legacy and a loyal customer base but in today’s competitive market it is important to build communications for the brand and make the right noise to sustain. MBJ is a brand which stands for quality and designs. It is important to reiterate this over and over again. We are constantly improvising our communication plan and also working towards sourcing and building our social media. The world is evolving and so we need to keep pace with that.
7. On a personal level, what motivates you, what are your sources of inspiration?
There are so many aspects of nature which fascinate me and till a very large extent that is a source of my inspiration. The brilliance of colors in flowers and leaves, the beautiful plumage of birds, the ebb and flow of the ocean, the cloudy skies – there is inspiration everywhere to be found in nature. The universe in itself is a masterpiece.
