Corner Room – Affordable 3 courses

Hidden inside an architectural stylish boutique hotel, Corner Room resides at the first floor of Town Hall Hotel & Apartments. The surrounding area may seem like a dump in Bethnal Green but the hotel is placed perfectly in the East End. The location has easy access to the neighbourhood of Shoreditch and Dalston. It’s somewhere to escape with its historic allure of the original architectural design and vintage furnishings.

I arrived at Town Hall Hotel, by the Cambridge Heath entrance, Peg + Patriot and Typing Room is conveniently located next to it. Corner Room is on the other end of the building. Passing the endless art deco corridors I arrived by the reception of the hotel. They guided me to the first floor, and as the name suggest. A tiny corner is housed for this tiny restaurant. I caught a glimpse of the chef doing his last minute seasoning and plating dishes as I waited to be seated.

It’s a 30-seat place, with wooden tables, white walls and industrial hanging lights it sets the relax lounge atmosphere. The 2 or 3-course meal is a real bargain. The menu changes seasonal and you can only find out on the day what they serve.

Opting for 3 courses for £23 I got myself a glass of bubbles to go with it.

The entry starter dish I choose. Deep Fried oysters, anchovy, roasted baby gems & hot tartare sauce. Oysters are done beautifully crispy golden brown on the outside, biting into juicy meat. Since the deep fried oysters were piled on the supposedly baby gems. It became soggy and warm from the heat of the deep fried oysters. The tartare sauce was overbearing with salt. I felt like I ate a spoonful of salt.

My main the best of the lot cannot be faulted. Navarin slow cooked shoulder instantaneously fell off with a slight touch. Is every bit satisfying from that melt in the mouth experience, immersed with the richness of the sauce. Duck fat cooked potatoes and seasonal vegetables in between bites balanced out the rich sauce.

I knocked off a few points for Corner Room since I clearly ordered the brownie for dessert but was served the meringue. It’s a gratifying sound to tap the edges of the meringue and hear it cracked. This frangipane is a bit boozy with the cognac and the chestnut cream was delicate.
