Cosme

This sleek Mexican restaurant serves upscale Mexican cuisine in Manhattan’s Flatiron district. Cosme is helmed by chef Enrique Olvera, who also owns Pujol in Mexico City (often regarded as one of the world’s best restaurants), and was the chef’s first New York City restaurant. Alongside Daniela Soto-Innes, regarded as one of the youngest and most talented female chefs in the world, and restauranter Santiago Perez, Cosme has become a staple on the New York dining scene (former President Barack Obama has dined here several times). The cuisine is rooted in Mexican flavors, techniques and traditions; his signature dishes are sliced raw fish, uni tostada with shellfish, cobia al pastor and his famous duck carnitas. Olvera tries to stay as local as possible, and sources many local and seasonal ingredients from neighboring Hudson Valley. Cosme is also known for its impressive spirits program focusing on artisanal spirits, including those made with high-end mezcal and tequila and seasonal ingredients; beverage recipes are treated much like the cuisine in that no detail is overlooked. Cosme is indeed a journey through the senses. Olvera’s Cosme is minimalist, simple but very elegant. He uses plenty of natural materials, including concrete flooring and walls, low-slung couches and tables and statement light fixtures, which allow food to be the most colorful and important thing in the room.
