Due to be christened in Genoa, Italy on November 7, the Italian cruise operator’s future flagship will carry some 7,874 works of art, reproductions and silkscreen prints.
All of the works to be exhibited in different places around the ship are tied into the theme of the crown (“Diadema”) and other royal symbols.
Costa Cruises enlisted the help of 41 artists, 38 of whom are Italian, to create the various objets d’art that will adorn the Costa Diadema. The operator lists “contemporary pop culture and the art of the Italian Renaissance” as the primary inspirations behind the project.
Nothing short of a seafaring museum, the ship will display 190 original paintings and mixed media works, 260 digital art works and 27 sculptures.
Among the contributors are internationally renowned artists Sam Havadtoy and Mario Donizetti, as well as emerging Italian talents including Vanni Cuoghi, Andy, Resi Girardello, Roberta Savelli and Claudio Prestinari.
This November, the Costa Diadema will become Costa Cruises’ largest ship, with its 306-meter length and capacity of 5,000 passengers.
The ship will set sail for a series of Mediterranean cruises immediately after its inauguration.
