Harsh Rajput & Preet Rajput for TMM
Meet Harsh Rajput and Preet Rajput, two creative souls and brothers, who fight, work, create and live together a dream called Coverwale Bhai. They are known for recreating the iconic songs with a pinch of personal touch and liveliness. In an online chat with TMM, the duo talks about their YouTube channel, their bond and how it defines their work.
If you have to define each other in 2 sentences, those lines will be…
Harsh: Preet is someone who makes things fun without uttering a single word. He is silent jollification!
Preet: Rather than two sentences, I would like to use two words for him- ‘Sincere’ and ‘Hard-working’.
Your YouTube channel is called ‘Coverwale Bhai’. What’s in the name?
Harsh: The name itself is very unique and it solves the purpose of our channel. We are brothers and we make covers and decided to give it Hinglish touch, hence Coverwale Bhai. It’s our way of presenting songs, where you will feel the difference once you watch the videos.
When it comes to work, how do you both channel it and make sure to give the best shot?
Harsh: Well, we both are open to suggestions; hence we work as a team. So, Preet comes up with the song and I do the music for it. Once the song is ready, both of us try giving a different touch to it by tweaking it. We keep listening to it and sometimes after giving it a 100 shots we change something that we feel isn’t sounding right. We try to give out the best.
Tell us about Safar and something that will be with you both always.
Preet: Safar is a song which is very close to our heart; it’s a song which we believe in. It was a difficult one to recreate. We feel it’s the affection and love which will always be between us.
Is there any iconic song from the 80s or 90s that you both wish to recreate with your flavour? If yes, which one, why and how?
Harsh: The list is long here, we have grown up in that era, but if we have to name one it will be Dilber Mere from the early 80s flick Satte Pe State. We would like to recreate without losing the essence of the original one. And a few more from the list are Pehla Nasha and Main Koi Aisa Geet Gabon.
You both are quite active on social media. What do you have to say about the ongoing scenario of social media?
Preet: Social media has become a very important and integral part of our lives these days. Till the time people are keeping it real, it’s good, but the moment people start pretending it becomes toxic. In our opinion as artists, it’s the best way to reach our audience and spread awareness.
The entertainment industry is not a cakewalk. Tell us about your hardships in the industry?
Harsh: Every industry comes with its own difficulties, so does the entertainment industry. It’s one of the most competitive fields, where every day there is a new challenge. Also, with the ongoing lockdown when almost everything is shut and we facing a major economic crisis, the future looks very gloomy in the industry. But as they say, there is always hope, so we are working out our ways to keep going and keeping our mind stable.
Tell us one quality of each other that you both like and dislike and why?
Harsh: One thing that I like about Preet is that he is very sincere, but at the same time is equally lazy and I think that’s quite a unique combination to have in one person. Also, he takes a lot of time to get the work done, hence gives a lot of pressure on deadlines.
Preet: I think I like and dislike the same quality of him and that is his enthusiasm. I like it because it helps us get things done faster and I dislike it because it gets irritating at times as the enthusiasm turns into over-enthusiasm.
The national lockdown has affected all the industries badly. How are you both coping up with it at the professional level?
Harsh: It’s a global pandemic, the whole world is in this together. According to us, the key is to keep yourself busy with something or the other. It can be anything like following your hobbies, getting in touch with friends, bonding with your family and professionally just brushing up your skills and making it better for the better times to come.
How are you utilizing your time during the ongoing lockdown?
Harsh: Well, I am working on my hobbies like cooking, keeping myself fit, watching a lot of online content, also Coverwale Bhai is keeping me busy in this lockdown.
Preet: I’m just trying to have a good time at home, relaxing, playing games, talking to friends, working on a few projects which got delayed because of the ongoing pandemic and of course Coverwale Bhai takes a lot of time. From recording the song, mixing it, brushing new ideas, shooting it and then post-production, a lot of time is utilized in that.
