The first word that comes to mind when you see Crosby Street Hotel is whimsy. Operated by Firmdale Hotels (whose hotels all have an eccentric and beautiful design), Crosby Street Hotel is located in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. The hotel has an unassuming exterior (the hotel is accessed via a cobblestone street) with the exception of large modern sculptures outside, including a 12-ft cat at the entrance. Upon entering, the lobby is filled with natural light and some more quirky art — albeit all exceptionally elegant. The hotel has just 86 bedrooms and suites and each is designed completely differently, though each has floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over all of downtown Manhattan. Interiors were designed by Kit Kemp (who co-founded Firmdale Hotels with her husband, Tim), who is known for her tasteful use of color and contemporary style (think: illustrated wallpaper, lovely floral arrangements and modern-style furniture). Each stay is completely different thanks to this unique design. The Crosby Bar is a buzzing place for breakfast, lunch and dinner and afternoon tea using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Enjoy dining inside or on the breezy terrace on a warm day.
