It looks like Abby Lee Miller is off to a good start this year. The 53-year-old was spotted heading to dinner at Craig’s restaurant in West Hollywood on Monday, January 6, sporting her best accessory yet: her smile.
While it’s still too early to tell what 2020 will be like for Abby, 2019 was a whirlwind. In September, the Dance Moms star took her first steps on The Doctors following her battle with Burkitt lymphoma. Naturally, it was a very emotional moment for her, but she did it.
In July, she underwent knee surgery, which she shared details of on Instagram. “Hey, everybody. This is it. Another surgery,” she said in a video. “You know, I’ve had three knee surgeries before, and I’ve been putting off this total knee replacement for about 7 years, 8 years now. It was always ‘one more episode,’ ‘one more season,’ ‘another special’ … So, the time has come.”
Fortunately, it was a success, and a month later, she exclusively told Life & Style she was “feeling OK” since the procedure. “I don’t feel a lot, so I just had my knee replaced — total knee replacement. And everyone says it’s the most painful surgery that you can have. I didn’t feel a thing, so it’s all good. However, I fell or was dropped, in the Pittsburgh airport transferring from their little chair.”
In case you need a refresher, Abby’s wheelchair incident happened in June, which she shared with her followers in a now-deleted Insta post. “I tore two of the pieces of my rotator cuff and so when I was rehabbing my knee trying to stand up, trying to walk again, I took 50 steps with a walker,” she wrote at the time. “Of course, I was so elated, but the shoulder was really a problem. If my left arm was as good as my right, I’d have been up walking.”
Though it’s been a journey for Abby, she’s hopeful one day she will be able to walk without any assistance. “I think if I could just walk to my bathroom from my bedroom into the master bath, it would be great,” she added. Baby steps!
