Getting around Melbourne city
This was the one free day I had no plans but to just roam around Melbourne and just live like a local. With one of the largest tram network in the world, it’s easy to jump on and off places as it’s overground and you can look out the window for points of interest. All you need to listen out for is the stop number. As it’s overground you easily navigate and see where you at. The Myki card is a reusable card for trains, trams and buses. There’s even free trams in the city called the city tram, great for tourists and city workers needing to get around. With commentary on board to guide through the city.
Travel app
A must have for any traveller the free Citymapper and Moovit app, lucky for me it had Melbourne as one of the cities. With a live countdown to trams, trains, buses, and the get me there function made it an ease.
Jackson Dodds
Grabbing my first Australian breakfast at Jackson Dodds, conveniently located right by West Preston tram stop. It’s a nice little cafe, very similar to ones back here in London. I already knew the Aussies are big on their sourdough avocado toast I just went for the Jacks breakfast $17 and adding a tea since I don’t drink coffee. Jackson Dodds café is quite small with very few tables. You may find yourself sitting with strangers on the long tables. My breakfast didn’t disappoint all of the favourite things all on one plate, grilled halloumi cheese, sliced avocados spinach, and two poached eggs. Everything tasted fantastic, fresh, great crunch on the sourdough toast. It’s such a healthy nutritious breakfast that I didn’t even have to eat lunch.

Fitzroy
The very first places I wanted to revisit was Fitzroy, the street art and vibe attracted me and I wanted to make a special visit to Adidas factory outlet. It reminded me of Old Street and Shoreditch back in London. A lot of independent cafes, vintage shops, off beat restaurants, and street art. One of the stops offs I made but never got to eat is the sugar filled famous Doughnut Time. Their Always a gay time is very popular, doughnuts cost $6.70 a pop.

Brunswick Street
Brunswick Street is filled with cute vintage shops, shopping and eating in Melbourne is very expensive to me but I managed to buy a cute top from Elise Designs. I popped into Tomboy for an iced coffee, which comes with a scoop of ice cream. My all time favourite 7-eleven Slurpees are only $2. London we need 7-elevens.
Heading back into town I wanted to visit the State Library of Victoria. The public library boasts stunning floors and galleries.

Flinders Street railway station
Flinders Street railway station covers two city blocks. It’s one of the busiest stations with an astonishing recording of over 92,000 visits daily.
What trip would it be if I didn’t visit the famous alleyway of Hoosiers street. Covered in full blown colourful street art by artists.

I then popped into a few museums before heading back to my family to freshen up. Next post is my evening at Dexters.
