Decoding Décor with Krsnaa Mehta

A prominent name in the design industry, Krsnaa Mehta’s design philosophy translates into ‘Taking Indian Contemporary to the World’. The Director of India Circus shares that from a young age itself, he had definite opinions. “When I look back on it, I find it amusing that at that age I was so opinionated. I started off working with the family business Zeba and then worked for several established brands such as Good Earth, Bombay Store, The Elephant Company and have also been associated with projects for several national and international brands. I always wanted to start my own label and the natural progression of entrepreneurship running in my family led me to further explore this opportunity,” he says. With his brand India Circus, Krsnaa has managed to sell exotica with a contemporary twist, offering its patrons a range of home décor including cushion covers, scented candles, tableware, mats, rugs and wall art among other products.
With the festive season coming up, the designer shares five easy ways to add moods and tones to give your home a contemporary and sophisticated style.
Choose Your Colour Theme
Colours do play a central role in defining any theme. When you are in the process of designing your room, you must ask yourself a lot of questions. How much natural light is there? What would the kids like? Is there a study area? Does the dining area need some decor along with colours? And so on. Once you’ve asked yourself these questions, you should choose a colour scheme. The right colours have this unique ability to instantly transform the entire personality of the room. Your home space needs to cater to the trends of all seasons and for the years to come. If you want your home to have that timeless look, one that is as fresh and relevant today as it was yesterday, then you’ll want to seek out designs, styles and colours that are ‘classic,’ that have been created to last, in style, colour and materials.
Decorate Your Walls
Dressing your wall is the last thing that comes to mind with festivities. Wall art can transform any space from being boring to being unique and personal. Choose art that brings in a joyous energetic vibe to your living space. Add wall arts in shades of yellow, red and orange that forms an essential palette of any Indian festivities.
Hanging Lanterns
Enhance your home ambience with different shades and designs of lanterns. Brighten up the living area with a hanging light fixture bunched at various heights to create a soft, sweet glow. You can also light up corners with string lights that add a magical spell to your space.
Magic Of Scented Candles
Scented candles will go perfectly well with the soft glow of your lanterns. Warm fragrances of cinnamon, vanilla can beautifully infuse your home with some festive cheer. And will automatically make you feel happier and lighter.
A More Festive Entrance
The festive season always opens up the home to many of our family and friends. Organizing the entrance of your home is very crucial in creating the first impressions of your home. Add a pretty planter nameplate or choose something in brass or wrought iron paired with wood or stone to create the right first impressions.
