Decorating Life with Casa Santi Interior Design
If there’s one thing David Santiago of Casa Santi Interior Design knows, it’s how to be bold – in both design and character. The designer by day, opera singer by night has over 20 years experience in the trade, and works in both residential and commercial spaces all throughout New York and New Jersey. Bringing together his clients’ inspiration as well as his own style, traditional mixed with unexpected, modern flares, Santiago successfully creates cohesion in every space he works on.
Having worked with Santiago in the past, VUE has had the opportunity to see some of the most beautiful spaces he has created. Some of his trademark design elements are graphic elements, faux finishes, wall coverings, the blending of color and tone, and incorporating stripes, which he uses in many of the places he decorates, both big and small, to add depth and a conversation piece to the area.
“I like to do the unexpected with a traditional space, or visa versa, a modern space with traditional elements,” he explained recently. Believing that the concept of interior design is based on telling the client’s story through visual appeal and décor that make up a curated space, Santiago is adamant on emphasizing the word “decorating” rather than “designing” a lot while describing his work, mainly because he loves all the details that make a space.
Whether re-decorating and designing a space around items that are already there, or creating an entirely new design, Santiago also explained how much he appreciates pieces that never go out of style.
“I love to incorporate selections of furnishings that are timeless, like a sofa or a dining room table, which are investment pieces, always.”
Aside from decorating, his passion and experience has inspired him to introduce his Strictly Santi Furniture line, which offers one-of-a-kind pieces and original designs, and is also in the process of marketing his passion for wallpaper. Due to his creativity and success, he’s also a member of the Interior Design Society (IDS) New York City Chapter and the International Furnishings and Design Association (IDFA). IDS is an independent national organization comprised of more than 2,000 members, and is one of the country’s largest design organizations dedicated to serving the residential interior design industry, while IDFA is an association that inspires collaboration within the furnishings and design industry to support its people, and their products and services, with 16 chapters and international members-at-large representing all facets of the furnishings and design industry.
Decorating and interior and commercial design are the backbone of Casa Santi Interiors, but Santiago’s company also offers project management, kitchens and baths renovations, custom furniture, lighting and flooring, carpet and area rugs, staging, color consulting, wallpaper, interior and outdoor scaping, floral arrangements, and fine art curation. For clients who do not require a full project and want their professional opinion, Santiago and his team offer on-call design services which provide guidance and suggestions on space planning for an hourly fee.
