Each year, Design Miami/ brings together many of the world’s influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics. And December 6 – 10, 2017 this celebrated showcase is set to return with a curated gallery program, new areas of collectible design and its largest showcase of Design Curio installations to date. This year will see as many as 31 galleries participating, with the addition of 11 installations and a series of exclusive talks and events, marking the event’s 13th year by proving its status as a global design forum.
Of the 31 design galleries taking part, three are making their Design Miami/ debut. While the New York gallery Converso presents modern furnishings and objects, highlighting the work of modernist architect Albert Frey, the San Francisco gallery Lebreton will showcase the works of Jacques Quinet, Magdalena Abakanowicz and Francois Raty, and the New York gallery Maison Gerard, which is known for its collection of French Art Deco, presents the Isolation Sphere by Maurice-Claude Vidili.
In addition to these new arrivals, the upcoming edition will see the return of seven galleries that have been a part of Design Miami/ since its founding—Cristina Grajales Gallery, Demisch Danant, Galerie kreo, Galerie Patrick Sequin, LAFFANOUR – Galerie Downtown, Magen H Gallery and R & Company—with an extensive collection of historic and contemporary collectible design objects being featured between them.
Then alongside these gallery inclusions comes a series of solo shows; pay a visit to Galerie kreo to see the work of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, stop by Magen H Gallery to see furnishings by designer and master craftsman Pierre Chapo, and see an exhibition focusing on the ceramic objects by Eric Roinestad presented by Future Perfect.
Held each December to coincide with America’s premier art show Art Basel Miami Beach, and each June to coincide with Art Basel Switzerland, Design Miami/ is placed among the world’s premier events for collectible design.
