Dine Inside a Downtown Garden at Sourbon

South of Southern

With verdant planters, greenery draping over hanging trellises, gleaming pendant lights, cozy nooks, and seats you can sink in to, it’s hard to believe that Sourbon Kitchen & Bar occupies the space that once housed Doran’s sports pub. The new European-American bistro owned by Moscow native Natalia Vorobyeva delivers a welcome secret garden atmosphere to the 200 block of Clematis Street, which has also recently undergone a transformation to become more pedestrian- and outdoor dining–friendly. Dimly lit booths lend themselves to date night, and the moody bar is an optimal spot to post up for herb-centric libations concocted by Vincent Toscano (who mans the upstairs 215 Speakeasy) like a cilantro-infused Collins or a lavender martini that arrives with a smoking sprig.

The menu, featuring input from Vorobyeva’s background as a healthy caterer and restaurant owner in Russia as well as former Todd English cohort chef Richard Leadbetter, merges European and local influences. Diners will discover light yet satisfying salads, Florida pink shrimp bisque with tarragon crème fraiche, and crab-stuffed salmon with divine gratin potatoes. “We spent months creating and perfecting every dish, and we’re excited to show the community what we’ve been working on,” says Vorobyeva. “Eventually, the menu will focus entirely on European cuisine. I want to take my favorite dishes from all parts of [the continent] and make them our own.”
