It’s on the idyllic island of Vanua Levu in Fiji that oceanographer Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of legendary undersea explorer Jacques Cousteau, opened his own eco-luxury resort, the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort. Now guests are being given the rare opportunity to dive with Jean-Michel when he visits the five-star resort at the end of the year.
Following in the footsteps of Jacques Cousteau who pioneered scuba diving by co-creating the Aqua-Lung breathing apparatus to explore and film ocean depths never seen before, Jean-Michel Cousteau made scuba diving the focus at his resort, ensuring guests are introduced to the best dive sites in the region.
Aside from benefiting from Jean-Michel’s expertise, divers here have access to world-class dive sites such as Namena reef, which is widely considered one of the top 10 dive sites in the world for its diversity of coral and marine life. And any level of diver is welcome here, as the resort provides diving certification as well as rewarding excursions for advanced divers.
In its Vanua Lavu setting, the resort sits within the flourishing land of a former coconut plantation, overlooking the protected bay of Savusavu in an area that excels for its natural beauty. Each of the standalone Fijian bures here makes the most of its surroundings with private outdoor space and ocean or garden views. Then from here guests can explore the surrounding ocean and land or retreat to the resort’s spa.
A stay at Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is bound to leave a lasting impression at any time of year, but the presence of the founder himself over this year’s festive period adds even more appeal for curious travelers.
Guests at the resort will have the opportunity to scuba dive with Jean-Michel Cousteau from December 22, 2017 to January 10, 2018.
