According to the MIT Technology Review, the iPhone maker wants to turn its devices into research tools for medical studies.
Apple is reportedly working with US researchers on the development of apps that would allow iPhone owners to test and share their genetic code.
Amassing a huge database of DNA samples would enable scientists to better understand the cause of a number of diseases, such as Parkinson’s and, hopefully, expedite research focused on developing treatments.
One source with knowledge of Apple’s plans told the publication that the idea is to enable individuals to “show and share” DNA information with for example, organizers of scientific studies.
