Dr Rajiv Bhanot And Omega: Two Peas In A Pod

Upon entering Dr Rajiv Bhanot’s living quarters, one will immediately notice a golf club encased for display. “If you look closely, you’ll notice how Tunku Abdul Rahman’s name is etched on the golf club. This golf club means a lot to me in what it represents, as Tunku sought independence for our country using diplomacy and not violence: the pen is mightier than the sword.” Considering how there’re only 24 hours in a day, Rajiv being able to juggle all his commitments that he has so far is an achievement in itself: co-owner of PHI Clinic, Rajiv is also the founder of H2GO Global. Besides that, he is also managing director of Venuescape, an event management organisation. On top of that, he holds responsibilities in various non-profit organisations. To call his résumé extensive isn’t even the half of it. “I think it’s important to enjoy what you do. I wake up excited on most days looking forward to what I’ll be doing throughout the day. I work 7 days a week but it doesn’t feel like working for me. An example is the work trips I get to go on, which also fulfil my love for travel.” H2GO Global is dedicated in providing rural communities access to clean drinking water, something Rajiv believes is a basic human right. “We acquired the patent and IP to a British nanotechnology that has the unique ability to convert any source of dirty water into clean sterile drinking water. When you look at the statistics globally, one-sixth of a billion people worldwide do not have access to clean drinking water. You’ve got close to three million deaths caused every year solely due to contaminated drinking water, which to me is a humanitarian catastrophe. That being said, to have the means to assist in parts of the world where clean drinking water is simply not available, that would be the mission of the company.” To have dedicated so many of his early years studying medicine, stepping out to venture into entrepreneurship took as much motivation as it took courage. According to him, the routine life in the hospital was taking a toll on him, with him feeling that the continuation of doing so would hinder his own set of dreams and aspirations. “People always feel the need to validate themselves to others, but really to me, I just want to be able to do what I’m confident in doing.”

That being said, Rajiv still maintains his involvement with the medical world with PHI Clinic, a chain of medical and dental aesthetic clinics. “What we’re currently doing at PHI Clinic is very exciting as we’re constantly looking at the latest technology in medical and dental aesthetics. To be able to witness the advancement of technology evolve the field of medicine is truly magnificent.” Of course, with everything that’s going on in Rajiv’s life, one thing remains the top priority: his wife Deborah Henry. Beaming with pride, he talks about how Deborah is achieving amazing things of her own. That of course hinders the quality time they get to spend with each other, but they definitely make time when they can. “We’ve recently taken up cycling as a way for us to spend more time together. Besides that, we also extend our work trips whenever we can to make a little holiday out of it.” A man is represented through his timepiece. This is a statement Rajiv agrees entirely, with him being an enthusiast when it comes to horology. “I have various pieces which I wear based on the occasion I’m wearing to and the mood I’m in during that particular time. But as a whole, I love a subtle piece that’s also practical. I don’t believe in being too flashy. Subtlety in itself already speaks volumes for me.” The Omega Seamaster Diver 300m, a line celebrating its 25-year anniversary, is a timepiece Rajiv resonates with, as it maintains the balance between constant innovation and still holding on to traditional values. According to him, the ability to reinvent oneself is vital in achieving longevity in staying relevant to society. “What might work today may not work in the next 5 to 10 years, so I believe that one must always be open to accepting constructive criticism. If you take a look at all the businesses that have been disrupted today, most of them were because they failed to reinvent themselves to adapt to the times.” This rings true, as not only Rajiv personifies this belief, but also the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m, a timepiece that accommodates perfectly to the requirements of today’s wearers while still remaining true to its roots.
