Royal fans will officially be able to kick off their holiday festivities with Prince William and Duchess Kate (née Middleton)! Kensington Palace announced the longtime couple will be appearing alongside The Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry for an upcoming holiday special.
“We invite you to join the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Mary Berry as they serve a festive feast to thank those who are spending their Christmas helping others,” the palace’s official statement read on Instagram on Saturday, November 30.
According to the royal family, the upcoming program — which is titled A Berry Royal Christmas and is set to air on BBC One on Monday, December 16 — will follow Kate and William, both 37, as they join the British food writer, 81, on four separate engagements in their native U.K. The royal pair teamed up with the beloved British game show judge to show their appreciation for their charitable organizations and the people who work for them.
Along with their exciting announcement, Kensington Palace gave fans a glimpse of the upcoming TV special as they shared a series of photos of the group hard at work. The snapshots showed the trio as they prepared “festive food for a very royal event to thank all those working and volunteering over the Christmas period,” the statement said.
As royal admirers remember, Mary joined Kate this past September, as she celebrated the official opening of her “Back to Nature” playground and garden at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Garden Wisley in Surrey, England. As part of the special, Mary also recently joined William at The Passage, the U.K.’s largest center for the homeless.
Fans of the royal couple were over the moon when Kensington Palace shared the news of their highly anticipated TV appearance. “Love them all! Can’t wait to watch!” one fan wrote in the comment section, while another echoed, “Best news ever!” A third Instagram user chimed in, writing, “Ooooh sounds wonderful! I can’t hardly wait!!”
News of the royal duo’s cooking collaboration comes as no surprise considering Kate has been known to be a great chef. In fact, a source close to the Cambridges told Closer Weekly the brunette beauty looks forward to Christmas because she loves hanging in the kitchen with her and William’s kids — Prince George, 6, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1.
“Kate’s a fantastic cook, and baking is her specialty,” the royal insider revealed in December 2017. “She makes wonderful gingerbread men and the children love her chocolate brownies and other biscuits.”
Be sure to catch William and Kate in A Berry Royal Christmas on BBC One on Monday, December 16!
