Duchess Meghan, Duchess Kate, Prince Harry and Prince William Reflect at Remembrance Sunday Service

Back to black for Duchess Meghan (née Markle) and Duchess Kate (née Middleton). The two royals attended the annual Festival of Remembrance Sunday Service at The Cenotaph in London on November 10, along with their husbands, Prince Harry and Prince William. Their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, also made an appearance at the special event.

Both royal ladies were dressed in beautiful black coats and matching black hats as they stood on a balcony together for the ceremony. Each of their garments were adorned with a special Remembrance poppy pin, a symbol of the commemorative day.

This wasn’t the first event the two couples attended together for the British holiday. On November 9, they made an appearance at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance. The joint outing marked their first appearance together since July.

That being said, it seems as though the duchesses are attempting to keep things cordial in the public eye. “Meghan and Kate certainly aren’t best friends and I doubt they ever will be,” a royal source explained to In Touch. “Kate has finally reached out to Meghan to remind her that she’s not alone — being a normal person who married into the royal family, to some extent Kate understands what she’s going through.”

But it looks like that civility will mainly only extend to events. “They’ll be civil to each other in public, but that’s about as far as their relationship goes,” the insider revealed to the outlet. While normally a sister-in-law would or could be a source of solidarity or advice, Kate, 37, has mostly elected to stay out of Meghan’s business.

“To some extent, Kate does feel sorry for Meghan,” another source told the outlet about the 38-year-old’s struggles. “She has a good heart and isn’t the kind of person to say, ‘You’ve brought it upon yourself,’ but for the most part she’s keeping herself out of the situation. Kate has enough on her plate looking after three kids and fulfilling royal duties. She barely has a moment to herself and tries to avoid drama and conflict at all costs.”
