Baby comes first! Duchess Meghan (née Markle) and Prince Harry recently wrapped up their Africa royal tour. Though we saw plenty of photos of them together with their baby, Archie, it turns out the couple spent some time apart for the best reason — to make sure their 5-month-old had everything he needed.
Royal reporter Omid Scobie took to the October 3 episode of the “HeirPod” podcast and revealed that Meghan and Harry prioritized Archie during their 10-day tour. “[They] brought all his home comforts with him,” he said. “I heard there were a lot of toys that they brought with him. Just all the things that make him feel like he hasn’t gone anywhere, because you want to keep him comfortable the whole time. That’s why Meghan stayed with him in South Africa rather than join Harry on his travels.”
While the former actress, 38, stayed in South Africa in the British High Commissioner Residence at Bishops court, the duke, 35, traveled to Angola, Botswana and Malawi to attend his royal engagements. Thankfully, though, they were able to squeeze in some time together.
During the first portion of the tour, Megan and Harry took baby Archie to meet religious leader Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Fortunately, the sweet moment was captured on camera. Archie was so unbothered by all the cameras and attention that his mama called him an “old soul.” Harry agreed and said, “I think he is used to it already.”
The royal couple welcomed their son in May and since then, it’s been a whirlwind for the new parents. In such a short amount of time, Archie has achieved several milestones, proving what a smart baby he is. “At nearly five months, he’s already sitting up without any support for a few seconds, holding his toy bricks and Harry’s convinced that he can recognize himself in the mirror,” an insider exclusively revealed to Life & Style in September.
Harry and Archie already share a special bond. Besides looking so much alike, the two also seem to have their fun personalities in common. “[Archie] giggles away when Harry plays peekaboo with him,” the sourced added.
We’re excited to see what’s next for baby Archie!
