Edinburgh Day 1 | The Royal Britannia | Afternoon Tea

Edinburgh

Earlier in the year, I’ve managed to travel back to Zurich. It was one of the first holidays I’ve done abroad when I was 19 and exploring the town in adult life made me appreciate it more. Now summer came along, and I decided to make the most of the long days with another trip. This time heading up north to the UK, Scotland. Edinburgh is the capital with plenty to offer for travellers wherever you’re doing it one solo, couples, or family.

Ryanair jet

Flights with Ryanair was a bargain price of £27.98, departing at 08:55 am on a Monday morning. I woke up at 4 am rushing to Liverpool Street and catch the Stanstead Express train. Now with low-cost budget airlines, there are restrictions with Ryanair they try and charge as much money out of you as possible. From just carrying an extra bag to picking a seat. Beating the system with the 1 small bag to fit the dimensions of 35 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm I found Fjällräven mini kanken to be a perfect size 35 x 45 x 13 cm for Ryanair small bag policy.

What to pack with hand luggage only

I can see why Ryanair has once again changed the bag policy the flight was delayed from staff tagging languages and waiting for luggage to be placed under the plane. Took its time, instead of flying out from 08:55 the plane was delayed for one hour. The flight itself only took a duration of 1 hour 20 mins. Getting out of the airport, immediately going outside to the bus station to take the airlink bus to the city. The Airlink bus runs 24/7 every 10 minutes open return only cost £7.50.

Edinburgh city

Waverley Bridge is the main station and good base to start your travels. You can find tourist information and ticket shops to purchase tours and train tickets.

Waverley-Bridge

Since the guest house Edunburgh Central Rooms I’ve booked wouldn’t be ready until the afternoon. It was time to go exploring the town, the Royal Edinburgh tour tickets are a great value to ride as many buses on the Majestic, Edinburgh and city sightseeing tour it includes fast-track entry to 3 royal attractions Edinburgh castle, the Royal Yacht Britannia and Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The Royal Britannia

Starting out on the majestic tour, hitting up the Royal Yacht Britannia. Without spoiling too much, it was The Queen’s royal residence by the sea. The Queen and the Royal Family used the vessel for over 40 years sailing around the world. There’s candid never seen before photos of the royal family on the boat. The Britannia fudge shop is worth a visit made on board by Pauline. Once you finish the tour head on down to the stunning Royal Deck Tearoom for some afternoon tea.

After touring the city, dinner was at Maki & Ramen before heading back to the guest house. Edinburgh Central Rooms is minutes away from Princes Street and high street a fantastic location and great value for money. Comfortable clean beds, the only negative is the shared bathrooms and there’s only two for the whole building.
