Kensington Gardens wasn’t just one of the many residences of the royal family February 22. It played host to Burberry as the brand showcased its Womenswear Fall/Winter 2016 collection, titled “A Pathchwork”.
With more than 1,000 audience members in attendance, the models walked the runway accompanied by a live performance from Jake Bugg. The award-winning musician played several of his singles as well as the latest “On My One” in the middle of the stage. Meanwhile notable personalities such as Naomi Campbell, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Ellie Goulding and Mario Testino watched the latest collection make its way down the catwalk.
The designs were quintessentially British, due to its influence from the country’s artists, musicians and history. The brand chose an eclectic mix of colors, from parade red, sapphire blue, military green, black, mustard, gunmetal and regimental navy amongst others. The colors worked their way into the collection that included but was not limited to, military coats, flared officer trousers, pleated dresses, cape jackets and French coats.
The designers also played around with textures and fabrics such as glossy python, jacquards, cashmere, brushed wool mohair, hand-worked fil coupé silk and silkscreen floral lamé. The attention to detail in each item of clothing was evident with the intricate embroidery, handmade appliqués, leather buffing with a stone for a high-shine finish and patch-worked panelling.
