I only come to hear of Lamberts restaurant when I google Sunday roast, raved for it’s roast beef. There have been times when I tried to go on Sunday and found it was fully booked.
My friend was contracted to work in the area last November and I suggested Lamberts for dinner. Lambert is along Balham High road and offers an intimate, friendly service with an ever-changing seasonal very British menu.
Starters cost around from £7, mains range from £15-19, and desserts £6 onwards.
We went straight in for the mains, complimentary bread and butter were provided as we waited. Sheets of bouncy foam lay on top of each other, along with small pots of salt, pepper and butter.
My main, was expertly prepared a reddish oak colour of meat still bloody red bang in the middle. Airy white foam carefully placed in between the artichoke and confit garlic. The meat was good quality, flavoursome without any added sauce; it all came from the vegetables.
My friend opted for the rare breed beef, an enormous piece of meat that looked exceedingly mouth-watering.
I choose the most intriguing dessert dish and it was an unexpected surprise, honeyed fig slice with rice pudding ice cream. The ice cream was totally heavenly divine. It tasted exactly like rice pudding, creamy, sweet and milky. The honeyed fig slice had cream and jam sandwich between two flaky crispy thin slices.
To sum it up, exceptional Lamberts Balham offers fantastic British food for great prices. Great intimate cosy environment with friendly service, I still yet to come back for Sunday roast and shall be coming back.
