To expand efforts to help the people on the front lines of the fight against coronavirus, Fresh Rx, the Loxahatchee based fresh produce and wellness purveyor, launched Farm to First Responders in April after having success with its Farm to Family program in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. The program will oversee produce donations to health care workers at Jupiter Medical Center, as well as from three hospitals in Martin and St. Lucie counties, through May 2.
Farm to First Responders’ initiatives have a two-fold benefit, as they support medical personnel and farm workers. Members of the program purchase produce from local farms, assemble the produce in boxes, and deliver the boxes to first responders for free. The program allows local farms to continue operation while area restaurants and farmer’s markets remain closed during the global pandemic.
“We are so thankful for the brave men and women who are on the front lines battling this disease so that we can all remain safe,” said Margaret Duriez, owner of Lox Farms and co-founder of Fresh Rx. “We are fortunate that we’ve had an outpouring of support for our COVID-19 initiatives, which allows us to give this critical workforce nutritious food to help them stay healthy.”
Those who wish to support the Farm to First Responders program can donate on Fresh Rx’s website. A donation of $25 covers the creation of the produce box and delivery to first responders.
