The Fiesta de San Isidro is Madrid’s largest festival and celebrates the patron saint of the city, who was canonized in 1622.
Traditional costume is donned, Cocido Madrileño, the Spanish chickpea delicacy, is dished up, and flamenco dancing and Latin rhythms fill venues across the city center. The festivities also mark the beginning of the bull fighting season in Madrid. From March through October bullfights are held at Las Ventas, an arena with a capacity for 25,000 people.
