In an industry that venerates tradition and heritage, French fashion house Chanel has done an incredible job legitimising its place in the world of watchmaking. Chanel has not only managed to create a watch aesthetic that is uniquely theirs, but the brand also produces its own in-house movements.
This year, Chanel marks a watchmaking milestone for its J12, a watch with its choice of ceramic as a primary material and an unapologetically fun, care-free design, which has become as much a cult classic as it has a fashion statement.
To celebrate the J12’s 20th year, Chanel has unveiled the J12∙20, in which takes twenty symbols and references from the maison, such as the 2.55 bag, camellia, bottle of N°5 perfume, and tweed jacket. The J12∙20 watch is equipped with the Caliber 12.1 and comes in 2 sizes – a 38mm (HK$61,300) and 33mm (HK$51,000) – each limited to 2,020 pieces.
The J12∙20 also comes in a high jewellery version featuring a front set entirely in white baguette-cut diamonds and side in pink sapphires, which is limited to only 5 pieces.
