For Elite Travelers, Hawaii Offers A Special Salt

For elite travelers who have a passion for fine dining, and like to also spend some time in the kitchen, two former private jet company executives are taking the best of that always popular private jet destination, Hawai’i, and bringing the flavor anywhere in the world.

According to a press release, “The unusual flavors of Sea Salts of Hawai’i — Hawaiian Chili Pepper, Maui Onion, Hawaiian Ginger, Pineapple, Nalo Farm Herbs, Big Island Seaweed, and Moloka’i Kiawe — are grown locally. They are then combined with salt harvested from the tiny island of Molokai, and from ancient deep sea waters off the Kona coast. In short, these culinary creations are Hawaiian originals, and are as unaffected by human influences as possible.”

Behind the venture are two people who had many firsthand dealings with private jet travelers during their tenure at NetJets.  Sandra Gibson oversaw the plethora of events the private jet provider put on for its owners while Maryann Aarseth led public relations.

According to their material, “Sea Salts of Hawai’i have been spotted in a wide range of places. They were selected by all three of Hawaii’s private aviation companies as client gifts, and were a featured gift at the Annual First Lady’s Congressional Spouses Luncheon this May in Washington, DC. Sea Salts of Hawai’i were also chosen to go onboard Hokole’a, a traditional Hawaiian voyaging canoe journeying around the globe to share its message of a sustainable future and respect for cultural and natural environments.”

Company founder Sandra Gibson notes that elite travelers can find Sea Salts of Hawai’i in selected Whole Foods Market stores and some of Hawaii’s most exclusive resorts, including the Hualãlai Resort, Halekulani Hotel, Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa as well as the ‘lolani Palace, the only royal palace on US soil.

Bev Gannon, one of the original Hawaiian regional cuisine chefs, is a devotee of Sea Salts of Hawai’i. Gannon is the proprietor of three award winning restaurants on Maui — Hali’imaile General Store, Gannon’s, and Joe’s.

Why is this salt so popular?

Gibson says, “Hawaiian sea salt has a unique combination of taste and mineral content. It naturally contains magnesium and potassium which help maintain your body’s electrolyte levels. Traditionally, Hawaiian sea salt is used in the ceremonial blessing of voyaging canoes and tools, and to preserve abundant catches. It was one of the first items exchanged between the native populations and early traders as far back as the 1700s. Even to this day, Hawaiian sea salt is considered a symbol of good luck and blessing and makes a beautiful and meaningful gift.”
