Life is all about playing different roles. While we are busy playing those roles, there are people who create history with the way they play these roles and one such personality is Prachi Tehlan, a successful sportsperson, actor, entrepreneur, dreamer, and an ultimate achiever. Prachi belongs to a Jaat family and keeping all the limitations in mind, the self-driven woman is today a celebrated name in the field of Basketball, Netball and acting. In a detailed conversation with TMM, Prachi talks about her success saga and what kept her driving all these years.
Prachi Tehlan,Your website reads, “In short doing something different to be different”. How do you define different and how do you look at your success saga?
I do what comes from my heart. I have been blessed with opportunities to see the positives in life and just go with the flow. Being different for me is all about finding positives in every situation in my life and fighting it with the right energy. This philosophy has worked for me in life and I will continue to lead it the same way, no matter how hard life pushes me back. I just feel good listening to the words “Success Gaga”. I am glad if the world feels that, it’s always flattering.
Prachi Tehlan,Corporate, sports, and cinema. You have covered three different professional dimensions in your career. How did you manage and how each one happen?
Sports taught me the basic self and time management which helps me in every aspect of life. Sports happened when I was 12 years old. I was motivated by my school coach to start playing Basketball. After my graduation from JMC and my dual MBA from IMT and IP University, I got my first job in Accenture. I started with interning there in the HR department and ended up being a consultant when acting happened to me. Never aspired to become one, but got an offer on Facebook fan page (as a sportsperson) and rest is history. My life has always been about major ups and downs and adventures. And I would like to believe that’s how I love it.
Prachi Tehlan,Today, things have changed for women in sports and cinema both. How was it when you started and how did you manage to make space for yourself?
Women are prospering in all aspects of life. And it’s wonderful to see the change and growth. Sports are always fun and exciting for me. I have always been highly ambitious in life. I didn’t think about making any space. I just kept utilizing every opportunity which came my way and kept working hard. My height has always been a major advantage in everything good that has happened to me in life.
Prachi Tehlan,You are quite particular about your workout regime and recently you mentioned that it helps in emotional balance. Tell us about your fitness mantra.
Well, being a sportsperson you always enjoy being fit and healthy. But I am a BIG FOODIE! I love food. And I gain and loose very fast because of a good metabolic rate. I would just say, being healthy and fit is adopting a healthy lifestyle. It’s a lifestyle choice you need to make. Drinking lots of water and doing any sort of physical activity and sweating always helps with a positive happy day.
Mamangam took your success story to another level. Your takeaway from Telugu films that you will always keep in mind and apply in your future projects.
It’s a Malayalam film. Every industry is different. I enjoyed working in Kochi for Mamangam. It’s a film which will always be very close to my heart. I have always been adjustable because of my sports background and I really enjoy exploring culture, places, and meeting new people. I just take everything in life as an experience and everything is a learning process.
How do you create a balance between your work life and personal life at home? Any tips for working women out there?
I have been managing myself since a very young age. It comes to me naturally now, not much of a problem. I guess it is important for people to make their own way to climb up with full dedication, dignity, and self-respect and no obstacle should stop you from achieving what you desire in life.
What are your future plans in both sports and filmy career?
Waiting for the lockdown to get over, for the world being a better place to be and people around more wiser and sensible to deal with.
Basketball court, television and silver screen share your experiences and learning from each.
Well, the space is too short and the words too less to sum up my life experience here. I am a blessed child, a destiny’s child and I believe in it. Experiences have been adventurous and beautiful and the learning curve has been extremely productive and enriching.
