For four seasons, fans watched as Ruby Gettinger worked with nutritionists, doctors and trainers to lose weight on her hit Style series Ruby. In 2008, the redhead started the show at 550 pounds — and she ended up dropping more than 220 pounds.
Despite her roaring success on reality TV in the early aughts, it seems the Georgia native has stepped out of the public eye in recent years. Aside from regular updates on her Instagram page, the 53-year-old isn’t slated to appear on any upcoming shows and hasn’t made any public appearances lately. Yes, sadly, that means there doesn’t seem to be a Ruby reboot on the menu for the near future, at least not according to Ruby’s IMDB page.
When the TV personality spoke exclusively with Life & Style in January 2018, she revealed she was working with a new production company. “We are working towards a new show,” Ruby explained at the time. “I’ve had so many fans asking me to do another show. Many have [signed] petitions on social media! They started a group called, ‘We want the Ruby show back,’ and over a hundred thousand signed up. Crazy!!” So far, it doesn’t seem like anything more has come of that new series just yet.
After Ruby ended in 2011, the southerner gained back over 150 pounds. However, she revealed seven years later that she was getting back to the healthy lifestyle that brought her weight loss success. “I am happy to report that I am back on track!” she told Life & Style at the time. “With that being said, my weight loss journey will always be a thorn in my side. I will always have to battle with my weight, but the more I battle and do not give up, the stronger I become.”
By January 2018, the starlet had lost 130 pounds and was close to being at her lowest weight again. “I’ve been eating a clean, healthy diet made up of greens, lean proteins, and healthy carbs,” Ruby revealed. “My goal weight is no longer a number for me, it is about becoming healthy and able to live my life with no restrictions.”
She also revealed she had been struggling with dating at the time. “In my imagination, I’ve dated Josh Holloway and Garrett Hedlund,” she teased. “I’ve had no serious relationships to speak of. I had one that was getting close, but the weight was still an issue. Even now I hear, ‘If you lose weight you would be the perfect girl. I love everything about you, but the weight issue is still a problem.’ I guess I’ve learned something because I kicked his ‘astronaut’ to the curb, and I’m like, ‘Hello … I AM the PERFECT girl!!!'”
It seems the former reality queen is enjoying her quiet life in 2021.
