There are days/nights when I want to crawl to the nearest bar to let my hair down and have some fun. Foundation Bar is the eclectic underground bar in the heart of Covent Garden. Follow the steps to a playground of quirky art installations, drinks served out of quirky items such as teacups, wellies, and many others. Menu’s are made up of recycled old disc records.
Invited down to try out the food and drinks and celebrating my Shortlist magazine feature the night begun with drinks. Nearby tables were enjoying wine out of a welly boot and music pumping with a great playlist to get you dancing all night long.
You all heard of the #selfie song by Chainsmokers, and we all gone social media crazy with billions of #selfies on the addictive network instagram. Now have you ever thought of drinking a cocktail with your face on it? The #selfie drink is served with a Polaroid photo of yourself and the drink itself is a sweet alcoholic raspberry and white chocolate milkshake.
J Despicable me drink is for the yellow banana crazy fans, with all the exotic flavours making up a tropical blast.
Ordering some nibbles we started off with a tremendous size portion of avocado and toasted focaccia. Chopped up avocados with red-hot chilli’s and zesty limejuice, focaccia was very crunchy.
Crab cakes went down well too, fresh crab from the west coast in an outer breadcrumb layer served on a slice of sweet sun blazed tomato.
I decided on choosing the bar food sarnie, thinking the philly steak be something like the ones I’m used to. However it was in baguette, with thick cut steak, with philadelphia cheese. The sourness from the philadelphia cheese kind of ruined it, if substituted to a sauce I think I would have enjoyed it. The actual baguette bread was lovely and crunchy and chips were decent.
J said her rib eye steak was super tender and flavoured, grilled perfectly served with Asian slaw with a pot of fries.
The next round of cocktails, I had Foundation Bar take of starbucks coffee. Starfxxxx’s is served in a plastic takeaway cup with a straw, you receive it personalised with your name on it. Although it had no coffee what so ever, the cherry bitters, patron and cherry coke tricks you into thinking it’s the real thing.
We made sure we made room for a dessert to share and the strawberry cheesecake sundae is not to be skipped. With their own take on the classic, the sundae was absolutely to die for. Layered with cream, creamy cheese filling and real strawberry pieces we made a lot of noises for the pleasure it gave us.
Saving the best to last, “Oh My” had to be the favourite drink; it’s like slurping a spiced apple and cinnamon custard dessert out of a cup.
Fizzazzle can make you feel like your whisk away to Hawaii this tropical paradise number, mixed with vodka, passion fruit and peaches in a tin cup.
Foundation Bar doesn’t take themselves seriously its all a bit of quirky fun, and tongue in cheek drink names. The underground bar is sure cavernous with another hidden block of private rooms and dance floor. The happy hour Monday with 50% off food and drink, Thursday 2-4-1 cocktails and a great atmosphere with banging tunes is a warrant for me to come back again.
