Getting to Know Christina Tang of Electric Soul

In Prestige Online’s new “Getting to Know” series, we ask Hong Kong’s favourite personalities what they’re like outside of work — and get a little more personal.

Quirky-chic Hong Kong entrepreneur, Christina Tang is making noise in the music scene with her new electro-alternative music app. Speaking to Prestige Online, she goes beyond the Electric Soul startup and shares a side of her that most don’t know.

What are you doing this weekend?
This weekend I’m going to do as little as possible! I had a big weekend last week at Antidote’s Till Death Do Us Party by Antitode. It was their first event, and it was visually and musically inspiring. It was a costume party, and I’m a huge fan of Halloween so needless to say, I stayed out late. To balance it out, this weekend is going to be all about relaxation!

What’s on your playlist right now?
Rezz is my go-to right now, it’s perfect if you’re into Halloween vibes. Her style is intensely dark and creepy, and the production is somewhat like techno-meets-dubstep.

What are you most likely to order at a bar?
It depends on the bar. I appreciate a good Caesar; if that’s not available, then a Bloody Mary will do, too. For food, fries will be my forever favourite, especially Blue Supreme’s. They ruined my relationship with fries at other places as they’ve set the bar so high. I’ve definitely become pickier about fries ever since.

What’s your favourite pastime?
To sleep in with my lover and kids! I don’t have any children yet, but I always refer to my pets as my kids. I’m a mom to Pekingese Mantao, Frenchie Lin Lai and parrotlet Spencer. I also like a nice day out in Hong Kong exploring places I haven’t been to or trying things I haven’t done before.

Tell us something that not too many people know about you.
I’ve been trying to work on my zero-waste lifestyle for a while now. Buying one-use plastic only supports production of more, let alone the neverending impact on the environment and food chains. We are ultimately the victims. The documentary A Plastic Ocean really moved me and I’m looking forward to its sequel, which is currently in production.

Describe your greatest moment of 2018.
Ever since I was a kid, I dreamt of swimming with dolphins in the ocean. I wished to live in the ocean and befriend all the underwater creatures. This summer, my bridesmaids took me to Hawaii and made my dream a reality. It was one of the most magical moments in my life, let alone 2018!

Who was the last person that you called?
My cousin. We were deciding her hair and makeup for her pre-wedding photoshoot. I’ve been dabbling in photography for a while now and I’ve shot a lot for my friends’ special days. Who knows? It could be a hobby turned side-hustle one day.
