Time after time José Pizarro just simply nails it. The meal at Josē Tapas bar in Bermondsay ticked all the boxes for me. Even when he taught a cookery masterclass the food made was simply divine. Can you imagine how excited I was to see on social that he was opening something near my area. Giant Robot is a rooftop street food market by pioneers Streetfeast. Open 7 days a week from 11 am to late. The rooftopia is located by the financial district in the city by the newly opened Crossrail place by Canary Wharf.
Giant rooftop boast panoramic views of the gardens and terrace. Under the roof are 7 food and drink companies. Little José was my main stop. The menu is short with a handful of Spanish tapas dishes but if there’s one thing you must try it’s the sensational ciabatta sub sandwiches. You may see an image of the boca sandwiches all over the internet.
BOCADILLO DE CALAMARES £7
The crispy fried squid is deep fried in a light batter, drizzled with squid ink aioli, housed inside a ciabatta roll. Squid is so fresh you can taste the sea, and the garlicky squid ink aioli lingers in your mouth. There’s also a side of freshly deep fried thin salted crisp on the side.
Another Spanish Tapas favourite of mine is patatas bravas £4. Deep fried potatoes covered in aioli and a rich spicy tomato sauce. The dish is a meal in itself. Once you have one bite you can’t stop eating it.
I have been back numerous times, and the way the BOCADILLO DE CALAMARES has been made is varied but still blows me away every time.
