Ginza Onodera London Afternoon tea
I’ve written a ton of afternoon tea articles on the site, many are the traditional British ones but I never ventured different cuisines. Ginza Onodera 銀座おのでら ロンドン offers a Japanese afternoon tea in association with Tsujiri only available on the weekends during 2-4pm. The price for the Japanese afternoon tea ranges from £29 to £72 and if you are after some high tea it sets you back at £12.
Ginza Onodera group

Interior
Ginza Onodera location in Mayfair, St James was once the great teppanyaki Matsuri. Which closed down for 6 months then remerged as Ginza Onodera with a £2.5m makeover. As soon as you step inside the restaurant you immerse yourself into dark sleek contemporary interiors. Black and dark brown walls and similar colours of the palette are used for furnishings lighting spotlights hit the middle of the light bleach wood tables.
Japanese afternoon tea
Bloggers, influencers and media were invited for an intimate private dining area to try out the whole Japanese afternoon tea food menu. The manager started the night with a little information about the Ginza Onodera group and then baskets of the afternoon tea appeared on the table. The Japanese love to have small bites for food but enough to become full.
dining area
I started off with the spider roll スパイダーロール, deep-fried soft shell crab is one of my favourite things to have, it has a lovely crunch on upon every bite and didn’t need extra soy sauce for flavouring.
Chicken karage 地鶏の唐揚げ was perfection covered in a light crispy batter the fillets absorbed the sake alcohol very well and still managed to be tender.
Salmon tataki 地鶏の唐揚げ seared salmon on a stick with plum and cucumber dressing.
Miniature Wagyu sliders 地鶏の唐揚げ was cut perfectly in a circle that fit a slice of tomato and had melted cheese oozing down.
Crab Croquettes 蟹クリームコロッケ made a nice addiction mixed crab meat with bechamel sauce.
Beef teriyaki 牛肉の照り焼き had a lovely grilled flavour to the meat and was accompanied with seasonal vegetables.
Desserts
Moving on to the dessert selection, the Kinako Blancmange きなこブランマンジェ is made up of soy bean blancmange served with black sugar syrup. Tasting very similar to a Brulee.
Lastly, we had a plate dished up with the chocolate gateau served without the ice cream but with berries and a sesame crunch. We were also served tea from Tsujiri throughout the night. The nine dishes plus tea was enough to semi-full and is a great selection of Japanese cuisine.
