Last year when the tickets for Giselle at the Royal Opera House were released I hurried to my computer to nab one, to find that most of them were already sold out. The exact seats I wanted for the exact performance I wanted had gone, there was only one left, but I didn't want to go alone. Weeks passed and I decided to just go for it, luckily the ticket was still there, so I got it, and this week I trundled along to the Royal Opera House all on my lonesome.
When I got there, I discovered that I was far from alone. I knew a total of seven people there, all from different social circles. It was the weirdest thing! Claire and James were just four rows in front of me, and despite me going to theirs for dinner on Sunday (which was delish btw), we had no idea we were all going to Giselle on the same night!

The ballet was just beautiful, it's one that I've been wanting to see for years but have never had the chance, but it was so worth the wait. The music was incredible and the dancing just magnificent. Act 2 was simply breathtaking, and was definitely my favourite! Giselle is a really great ballet to see if you haven't been before, as it's quite short for a ballet. Most have three acts, but Giselle only has two. The story is also really simple to understand and follow.
I've been to the Royal Opera House to see the ballet a few times now, I just can't get enough! I saw Swan Lake in 2012, The Nutcracker and Romeo & Juliet in 2013, and I'm now really excited to see what's going to be on in 2015! I wasn't a huge fan of The Nutcracker, or Sleeping Beauty. Swan Lake, Giselle, and Romeo & Juliet are definitely my favourites!
Lauren Cuthbertson as Giselle was just breathtaking and completely magical, it always amazes me how they make ballet look so effortless and easy, and their ability to act whilst dancing is incredible. During Act One she was sprightly and very much the overly-energetic and in love young woman, then Act Two arrived and it was as though through her death she'd matured and realized the true meaning of love. She no longer danced with youthful energy, but in a way that was so haunting it took my breath away. She was dancing to save the man she loved, and it was beautiful.
If you ever get the chance to see Giselle on stage, go. I can't recommend it enough!
