Glashütte Original: New References for PanoReserve & PanoMaticLunar

In the run-up to Baselworld 2015, Glashütte Original has announced line extensions for the PanoReserve and PanoMaticLunar. Each model will now have two additional references – one in red gold with a matte black dial plus red gold hands and indexes, and another in stainless steel with a blue dial and matching white gold hands and indexes. The versions with blue dials, in particular, stand out as existing references do not have dials in this colour.Glashtte New References Panoreserve Panomaticlunar 3Rather than source for dials externally, Glashütte Original actually has an in-house dial maker based in Pforzheim to manufacture its own, which is a rarity today. This allows the brand to have both tighter control on quality, and to tweak the dials’ colours to the exact desired shade. Vertically integrating operations does not simplify them though – each dial requires up to 40 separate operations to produce, including four and six steps to just apply graphic elements on the PanoMaticLunar and PanoReserve respectively.

Both the PanoMaticLunar and PanoReserve feature off-centred arrangements for their displays. The hour and minute sub-dial is positioned at 10 o’clock, with the overlapping small seconds sub-dial vertically aligned at its bottom. An outsized date display at five o’clock is another detail common to both watches. The remaining real estate on the right half of the dial, at two o’clock, is taken up by the power reserve indicator and moon phase display for the PanoReserve and PanoMaticLunar respectively.Glashtte New References Panoreserve Panomaticlunar 5Palette and material aside, the two models remain unchanged. The PanoReserve maintains its hand-wound Calibre 65-01 movement, which beats at 4Hz and has 42-hour power reserve. The movement’s detailed finishing is visible via the case back, along with the swan-neck regulator. Likewise, the PanoMaticLunar’s self-winding Calibre 90-02 movement remains intact; it also beats at 28,800vph and has a going time of 42 hours when fully wound.Glashtte New References Panoreserve Panomaticlunar 4
