Glenn Martens is Jean Paul Gaultier’s Next Haute Couture Designer

Following the collaboration with Lil Nas X, Jean Paul Gaultier is continuing its collaborative streak by announcing its next haute couture designer: Y/Project‘s Glenn Martens.

For Spring/Summer 2022, Martens will be taking over the collection, following sacai‘s Chitose Abe who did the label’s Fall/Winter 2021 range and incorporated some of her signature design elements into the couture pieces, and also worked with tattoo artist Dr. Woo to create graphics, as well as Nike to debut more collaborative sneakers.

It remains to be seen how the designer will interpret the iconic label, but from his tenure at Y/Project we know that Martens has an affinity for unique silhouettes and playful designs – something we’re definitely expecting from the JPG collaboration.

Glenn Martens has had a busy period, after being appointed Diesel’s creative director in October 2020, and winning the ANDAM Family Fund Award alongside Marine Serre in the same year, as well as maintaining his role at Y/Project at the same time. If there’s one designer we’re keeping a close eye on, it is him.

Jean Paul Gaultier’s choice to involve Martens comes as no surprise. After he finished his studies, he was offered a junior designer role at JPG, before he started his own eponymous label in 2012 and joined Y/Project later in 2013. After 10 years, the two will reunite and we can’t wait to see how much the designer has progressed since.

Announced on the label’s Instagram, the upcoming Gaultier couture show will take place in January 2022, with other details surrounding the collection yet to be revealed.
