A crew member aboard the world’s largest cruise liner, Harmony of the Seas, has died while four others have been injured in an accident. According to widespread reports, including the BBC, the 42 year-old Filipino crew member died when a lifeboat with five crew detached from the fifth deck during a safety drill. Two other crew members are in hospital with life-threatening injuries. Their lifeboat fell 10 meters into the water during a stopover in Marseilles. The Royal Caribbean Cruise company – operator of Harmony of the Seas – confirmed the death via its official Twitter account.
As previously reported, Harmony of the Seas is the world’s largest cruise ship at 362 meters long, with a maximum capacity of more than 8,000 passengers and crew. It draws lots of attention for its size – it is also more than 25 stories tall – and for its luxurious amenities. On this ship, there are 20 restaurants, 23 swimming pools, a theatre and a casino. Launched into service in May this year, the ship is also famous for its 10-story water slide.
