With much excitement generated by the watch world at #SIHH2018, our Instagram feed (@prestigesg) was swamped by scroll after scroll of haute horlogerie hubbub. Literally meaning the ‘high art of watchmaking’, haute horlogerie truly dominated most of the world’s social media postings last week, where luxury Maisons, the media and celebrity ambassadors captured not only images but videos of the latest and glitziest orologio offerings.
As the buzz surrounding SIHH winds down, we’re not tired of seeing timepieces yet and so have decided to compile some worthy watches much loved by three of Singapore’s top watch collectors.
1. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic True Second Limited Edition
Cheng Chye Peng (@1chengcp) has a pretty wide range of preferences when it comes to buying watches. One of his latest proud purchases is the Geophysic True Second Limited Edition by Jaeger-LeCoultre. There are only 100 pieces made, each engraved with “Limited Edition – One of 100 pieces” on the caseback.
But when asked which watch from his collection is his favourite, he answers, “The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph. It has a sporty look and is suitable for my daily wear — whether casual or formal.”
He also likes the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time. “I always like a GMT watch. This has a clean cut and sporty look too. I particularly like the red arrow indicating the seconds.”
2. The Lange Datograph
Looking at Robin Wong’s Instagram account (@jrwong23), you know he isn’t kidding when he says he is a “lover of all things related to horology.”
The Singaporean watch collector’s favourite piece of arm candy at the moment? “That would be my Lange Datograph, in pink gold and black dial,” he says. “Pink gold and black dial is a superb colour combination, which makes this watch look sharp and at the same time, warm on the wrist. The movement of the legendary Lange Datograph is always a feast for the eyes and I never get bored of it.”
3. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Tourbillon Chronograph
Andrew Teo, the executive director of subsidiaries at Hiap Hoe Group, is a true fan of haute horlogerie. Looking at his Instagram account (@mrtigerbalm), he has a penchant for Rolex and Richard Mille but it’s this Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph that really caught our attention.
From avant-garde to icon, this arm candy is a masterpiece of forged carbon case, glare-proofed sapphire, black ceramic and titanium.
