It’s an accessory that’s stood the test of time, seamlessly transitioning into different generations, and relentlessly worn by celebrities, society mavens and the upper crust. First debuted in 1937, the iconic Hermès inimitable softness stems from an arduous creation process. About 300 silk cocoons is what it takes to produce a single scarf; the weaving process can take up to three months. Likewise, the rich colours, print and patterns that define its aesthetic is a Herculean effort that can take hundreds to thousands of hours of engraving and print screening.

Little wonder why it remains such a timeless symbol of luxury. In honour of the Hermès Carré scarf, the heritage house is celebrating carré’s magical harmony of craftsmanship, art, heart and heritage with a pop-up. Open from October 19-21 at 3 Lady Hill Road, the Singapore exhibition is an immersive showcase with nine concepts, with each offering a unique experience. Check in at Click and Check, where guests check in and receive a membership card before heading to heart of the action: The studio, where carré designers and artisans will wield their skills in real time. In the spotlight is homegrown artist Izziyana Suhaimi who’ll embroider colourful threads onto the scarves.
The rest of the stations are fitting for visitors of all generations. Get your hair and nails done at Carré Cut, before belting out a ballad or two at the Carré Ok lounge that fits up to four people. Then, bust out your moves under a square disco ball and strobing lights at Carré Disco. Over at Carré Stories, the message of scarves as symbolic reinterpretations of memories comes to life in a retro telephone booth where visitors can listen to recorded messages of secret anecdotes, secrets, truths and fictions.
And once you’re spent from being “carre-d” away, plant your heels at the salon-style cafe that offers a refined take on Southeast Asian flavours, with cabaret-style entertainment, literary readings and arcade-style games. Pick up a souvenir — an exclusive silk bandana or a scarf from the Autumn/Winter collection — from the members-only gift shop.
