Hermès New Médor Rock Watch is a Star-studded Mystery

Traditionally developed to reinforce hunting dog collars, pyramid-shaped studs gradually became a decorative element due to its aesthetically pleasing qualities, which according to Hermès, inspired one of their first brand products: a dog collar bracelet. The bold, leather-studded collars then migrated to the waistline in the 1930s when females started emphasising their silhouettes by wearing dramatic belts. This then led to similar adaptations to other accessories such as bangles and watches in the later years.

Hermès’ New Médor Rock Watch is a Star-studded Mystery

Introducing the Hermès Médor secret watch in 2014. Hermès dug into its product archives and rediscovered a beautiful leather-studded collar. The artisans then combined it with their talent for producing whimsical depictions of time to create a watch that conceals the hours and minutes beneath a pyramid-shaped cabochon, and only revealing the time with a push on the crown.

This year, the French maison debuts a new Médor Rock watch, this time fitted with a triple tour strap and featuring three new versions of the cabochon: shiny mirror-polished, smooth lacquered and one that comes cross-set with 44 diamonds, for those looking to add a touch of glamour. Equal parts elegant and rebellion, the pyramid-shaped studs forms a hut that hides the understated silver-toned or lacquered dial, lending some quiet drama to this watch creation which may just be the closest thing to a genteel punk in the world of haute horlogie.

The “Very Small” model of the new Médor Rock watch comes in the same petite size of 16x16mm as its predecessor. Despite its small frame, the dazzle of the watch is more than enough to hold the spotlight. Also available in specially curated colours for the bold spirited and the ones who prefer a muted glow, Hermès Médor Rock watch now comes in orange, vermillion red, blue, natural Bareni and the classic black and white.
