Hermès is taking homeware presentations to a whole new level. Inspired by site-specific artwork by the late American artist Gordon Matta-Clark, with scenography from Jean-Christophe Vaillant and Hervé Sauvage, its Through the Walls exhibition features its latest offerings for the home, including tableware, decorative objects, furniture, wallpapers, fabrics, and bespoke creations such as the Les Curiosités Scarf Cabinet (shown above). A world-first, the installation was conceptualised specially for Singapore.
Till October 29, the third and fourth floors at Hermès’ Liat Towers store will be reimagined as a place to live, with dioramas peppered with the brand’s characteristic whimsy.
Free and open to the public, it offers a harmonious fusion of beauty, fantasy and functionality to fully express the Hermès universe. Engaging art and design workshops also play up the experience for Hermès fans. Until then, scroll through the gallery for a peek at the collections.
Helming this one-of-a-kind installation are Alexis Fabry and Charlotte Macaux Perelman, both deputy artistic directors in charge of Hermès home universe, automotive interior design arm Hermès Horizons, crystal manufacturer Saint-Louis, and artistic silversmith Puiforcat. Each is a respected force on the creative scene. An architect and designer, Perelman got her start with Philippe Starck and then began associations with architect David Rockwell and hotelier André Balazs. She launched Studio CMP in New York in 2005, and focuses on interior architecture and designing spaces. Fabry, a publisher and a specialist in Latin-American photography, co-founded Toluca Editions in 2003 and has launched titles devoted to photography, literature and design. He has curated a series of photography exhibitions, most recently Fernell Franco: Cali Clair-Obscur and Daido Moriyama: Daido Tokyo at the Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain in Paris last year.
