Hiroshi Fujiwara’s MSI Laptop Is For Fashion Nerds Only

Hiroshi Fujiwara, widely known as the “godfather of streetwear,” designed a laptop that ups the ante for fashion and tech crossovers.

In collaboration with MSI, a company known for its gaming laptops, the Japanese design legend dreamed up the Creator Z16, a limited-edition notebook releasing on September 20.

Channeling Fujiwara’s own wide range of interests (he’s not only a designer but also a DJ and music producer), the laptop will “satisfy your multitasking and pro-level processing tasks,” according to MSI’s website.

Of course, the gadget isn’t all function — it incorporates a good amount of fashion, too (Fujiwara is the founder of fragment design and fragrance label retaW after all). fragment’s logo is embossed on the front of the all-black unit, as well as on the interior. The device’s mouse, mouse pad, and carrying case all bear the Fragment emblem as well.

As gaming enters the mainstream (who didn’t turn to video games as a pandemic pastime?), tech and fashion collabs might become more commonplace.

Louis Vuitton partnered with League of Legends in 2019, and recently released a surprisingly addictive iPhone game, simply dubbed Louis the Game. Labels including Valentino, Marc Jacobs, and Sandy Liang debuted their latest designs on everyone’s favorite Nintendo Switch title, Animal Crossing, in 2020.

There’s ample opportunity for brands to take the gaming-fashion connection ever further. A Balenciaga smartphone (remember the LG Prada?), or a Gucci tablet would no doubt sell out — I’m just throwing some ideas out there.

In the meantime, Fujiwara’s MSI laptop will bring a healthy serving of style to Twitch.
