Higher Ground
As one of those early morning risers and someone who doesn’t like to waste a day. I decided to have breakfast with my niece at Higher Ground. There’s one particular dish that got my interest from my research, the hot ricotta cake made famous at their sister branch Top Paddock and Kettle Black that’s part of the Darling Group. Taking the train to Southern Cross station Higher Ground is just opposite.
Hot cakes
We were greeted at the door by a friendly waitress and managed to grab a table. The first thing you notice is the 15 meters high ceiling, with botanical plants. People casually having coffee for the morning and eating breakfast.
I ordered a green juice, and the niece a hot drink. When the hot ricotta cake arrived I was excited by the deep dish, so colourful with the edible flowers, seasonal berries, and cream. It’s like getting a 6-8 inch cake soaked up in maple syrup. The warm just baked out the oven cake was lovely and most inside with a nice crisp outer edge.
It came become too sweet and I’m glad we shared the cake with us. It’s no wonder this hotcake is a bit hit for that Instagram pic.
Higher Ground also has the world’s best croissant by Lune Croissanterie’s and other pastries for sale.
