French architect Jacques Couëlle created Hotel Cala di Volpe in the 1960s to work in harmony with the landscape. Designed to resemble a Mediterranean fishing village, the harborside property is distinguished by its orange, pink and yellow Sardinian-style houses. Since opening, the hotel has become one of Costa Smeralda’s most glamorous hideaways, attracting Hollywood celebrities and international nobility to this secluded spot in northern Sardinia. Days here are spent waterskiing and setting out on jet skis from the private beach, bathing in the saltwater swimming pool and playing golf on the putting green or at the nearby Pevero Golf Club. The restaurants and bars feature alfresco terraces, coastal views and cuisine showcasing Sardinian produce. Among these venues is Bar Pontile, which rose to fame when it appeared in the 007 movie The Spy Who Loved Me.
