The south-west area of Western Australia is one of my favourite places. I've spent so many happy times down here with both family and friends, and so I was desperate to get back down this time I was over. The girls and I headed down to the Pullman Resort Bunker Bay late last Friday evening, arriving at around 10pm at night. We had way too much luggage with us for one night, but luckily a lovely gentlemen was on hand with a golf buggy to drive us and our luggage the 100-yards from the car to the front of the hotel! We checked in and were then driven to our 2-bedroom villa.
Even though it was dark, the resort looked incredible! The entrance to the lobby is lined with shallow pools of water with mood lighting, and the lobby of the resort is all wood and feels very eco-luxe. After being shown to our villa they left us to it and we explored the accommodation. There was a large kitchen/dining/living space with huge cathedral ceilings and ceiling to floor glass windows at either end.
There was also a small outside dining area nestled amongst the trees which give plenty of privacy from any neighbours, sadly it only had two chairs though, so we couldn't use it.
Leading off the main room were a bathroom and two bedrooms, one with twin singles and the master room with a king. The beds were really comfy, my only gripe was the pillows. Two out of the four in the master bedroom were rock hard...to the point I felt as though I were laying on rocks, so I had to swap them over. How anyone can find these comfortable is beyond me! The best thing about five-star hotels is the lovely soft goose-feather pillows they have, but these were just wrong.
The master room also had an on-suite which features the most incredible bath! The shared bathroom only had a shower, along with a sink and a toilet, whilst the on-suite has a huge bath, open/walk-in shower, sink and toilet.
The bath amenities were excellent; luxurious Roger & Gallet shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap, and shower gel. There was also a block of handmade soap, which smelt absolutely lovely! There were also little extras such as a sewing kit, nail files, cotton buds etc.
Sadly we didn't get to experience much of the main house or the restaurant as we just didn't have time. It really did look amazing though! The whole building is just beautifully decorated and feels so luxurious but relaxed. And just look at the view from the restaurant!
The main feature of the hotel though, is the pool. Located at the bottom of the main house it's a large spacious infinity pool perfect for both adults and children, with views over the treetops and ocean. Long enough to do lengths and shallow enough for kids to play in, the area around the pool is perfect for chill-out time, with comfortable cushioned sunbeds shaded by a large pergola and umbrellas dotted around.
We had a really incredible stay at the Pullman Resort Bunker Bay, even though it was so short. The only gripes I had were the rock hard pillows, and the fact they only have free wifi in the main house (which wasn't even working while we were there), and not in the villas themselves. It's 2014...in a five star hotel it's pretty much expected that free wifi should be available. I understand people may not want the internet at a resort like this, but some people still have to work and it makes it incredibly difficult to continue to work abroad when there's no free internet at the hotel.
Apart from those two issues everything else was amazing, and if you're looking to get away from it all and just relax away from the real world, I couldn't recommend this place enough, whether you're a family or group of friends or a couple, there's something for everyone here. Check out the resort website for more info, and you can book online there too.
