Hotel Spotlight: L’Ermitage Beverly Hills

You may have heard the name, L’Ermitage Beverly Hills, but may have not realized where it was, or that you had passed by it many times before. That’s most likely by design, as this hotel is unlike the rest in Los Angeles. It is discreet, subdued, and most of all private. These are the reasons many global, high-profile clientele have trusted the L’Ermitage as their go-to hideaway for almost fifty years.

Established in 1975 on the palm-lined residential boulevard of Burton Way, L’Ermitage is luxurious getaway located only minutes from the heart of Beverly Hills. It is the longest-tenured Forbes 5-star all-suite hotel in the world, which offers travelers the upmost excellence in hospitality.

I have always loved the L’Ermitage Beverly Hills, not only because of the outstanding quality of service, but because of my family’s history with the property. An old family friend, Severan Ashkenazy was the one to develop this iconic property, and my aunt, Jayne Levant, his dear friend and General Manager of L’Ermitage at the time, co-founded the Small Luxury Hotels of the World association with him, inspired by this very hotel. The two also created the L’Ermitage Foundation on property, which was one of the best kept secrets on the Westside. L’Ermitage Foundation offered a rare concert series in an intimate salon setting at the hotel to members only, while raising funds for selected charitable organizations benefiting children. Some artists that performed there to their small, intimate audiences included the likes of Itzak Perlman and Kiri te Kanawa.

Staying at the L’Ermitage feels like your home away from home, even if it your first time there. It gives you an automatic feeling of comfort and familiarity, from the moment you arrive at the valet. From that point on, each and every staff-member will call you by name, and greet you as if you just returned home.

Because the hotel is small and boutique, it is easy to navigate around and feels much more cozy than large and corporate. The lobby consists of an elegant sitting room, a lounge and bar, and their restaurant, Avec Nous. Avec Nous offers a contemporary take on classic French bistro, with food and ambiance inspired by the French Riviera.

The all-suite hotel rooms are some of the most spacious in the city, with chic minimalistic decor which is both comfortable and inviting. Small details add to “feeling at home” experience, like the embroidered pillow cases with. your initials, and dog bed and bowls waiting for your furry companion, should you choose to bring them with you. George, my dog, felt like he was a million bucks as soon as he arrived in the room, greeted with bottled water, a fluffy bed and a bag of all natural dog treats.

Most rooms have French doors leading out to balconies with incredible views of the city from different vantage points, depending on which side of the hotel your room is facing. My room had a lovely tree-lined view of Beverly Hills and the Hollywood Hills, which gave such soft, perfect natural light throughout the entire day.

The large bathrooms are something to note, as well. With a dedicated vanity room, large closet, and huge soaking tub, I could spend hours in this part of the room alone.

The hotel’s top floor and rooftop may be where most guests choose to spend a lot of their time, as it features a state-of-the-art gym, full-service spa, and rooftop pool deck with sweeping 360 degree views of Los Angeles. From the rooftop, you can see all the way from the Pacific Ocean, to downtown Los Angeles, snowcapped mountains in the distance, the famous Hollywood sign, Beverly Hills, and beyond. The pool, only available to hotel guests, is heated year-round, with private cabanas and an intimate bar for poolside drinks.

I highly recommend choosing to stay at L’Ermitage Beverly Hills if you are one who appreciates privacy, tranquility, top-notch service and quality in a great location.
