Ever wondered just how much money there is in the world? So this is, of course, a complicated question, as it can be answered in multiple ways.
- How much is held in the form of Cash?
- How much is held in other forms such as savings accounts, term deposits and financial instruments (stocks and bonds)?
- How much is held in the value of physical items, such as gold, or property?
As of 2019, there is approximately US$36 trillion worth of cash in the world.
As far as secondary forms of money, such as savings accounts and stocks goes, it varies daily, but some estimations have it as high as US$80 trillion.
If we add in the value of all the physical items in the world, such as property, which is obviously variable as well, some estimations have it as high as US$40 quadrillion.
Should we add in the value of cryptocurrencies? probably, but they are again, broadly unknown in value and extremely variable.
