When sneaker retailer SNIPES recently launched its Juneteenth collection celebrating the holiday’s importance, they made sure to involve the local community and uplift Black creatives and entrepreneurs along the way.
SNIPES tapped the husband-and-wife proprietors of Aunts Et Uncles — a Black-owned concept space located in Flatbush, Brooklyn — to design a collection of T-Shirts that not only honors Juneteenth, but promotes dialogue around Black liberation.
To get a sense of how the community is supporting the collection, we linked with a few stylish folks from the NYC area who show us their favorite designs — including frequent Highsnobiety collaborator Jorge Gitoo Wright. “Being proud of your skin and your culture while being open and honest about who you are and what you plan to give to the world is what every Black boy in this world should be striving for,” he says. “Shout out to SNIPES for highlighting Black creatives like Aunts Et Uncles.”
Check out their fits below for some easy style inspiration, and look for the collection exclusively at the SNIPES Eastern Parkway and Barclays Center locations in Brooklyn and Aunts Et Uncles’ online shop. Of course, all proceeds from each sale go toward a community fund supporting other neighboring Black-owned businesses.
