How to Support Breast Cancer Awareness for Pink October 2018

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among females in Hong Kong, affecting one in every sixteen women. According to the latest figures (2015) from Hong Kong Cancer Registry, that’s over 6% of women at risk of breast cancer.

A recent Breast Cancer Foundation study also found that the majority cause of breast cancer was not hereditary but in fact lifestyle-based. It is therefore more critical than ever to raise awareness and educate those in need for early detection and screening.

Thankfully, the month of October is dedicated to exactly this and activities to advocate the cause are well underway. To help support the cause and raise funds to fight this life-changing disease, here are a round up of activities you can get involved in.

Shop for Pink with Hong Kong Cancer Fund

Bringing together over 20 different retailers and restaurants for the cause, the fundraiser campaign ‘Shop for Pink’ by Hong Kong Cancer Fund is offering products and experiences in pink to support the Cancer Fund’s extensive range of services, for those affected by breast cancer. This includes a whole host of ways to shop in support of the ‘Pink Revolution’, from Calvin Klein pink tees and Pink Truffle Linguine at BB Jazz’s Lounge to apparel from Pure’s Ivory Blush Collection and the limited edition Conrad Pink Bear and Pink Duck from across the waters in Macau.

Think Pink at The Langham Hong Kong

In honour of the Langham’s signature shade of pink and in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Langham Hong Kong — who are also official Pink Partners with Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation — are offering a ‘Think Pink Afternoon Tea’, available at Palm Court from now until 18 November. The set includes various items in pink such as sweets and pink-infused savouries including the Pink Ribbon Macaron, made with Jasmine tea and white chocolate ganache, and the Pacific prawns mini bun, with organic egg salad with crab roe. For every afternoon tea set sold, The Langham Hong Kong will also be donating HK$10 to the cause.

Wear Pink Pony by Ralph Lauren

Originally focused on breast cancer, the Pink Pony Campaign designated a pink Ralph Lauren Polo Pony as its symbol, but soon expanded its mission to help support across a wide range of cancers. This year, the campaign will donate 100% from sales of each new “Live Love” graphic tee in light pink to the Hong Kong Cancer Fund. While 25% from the sale of each item in the Pink Pony collection will be directed to the Cancer Fund too.

Their initiatives span more than 70 countries with medical research grants, education and services to help those who have been affected by breast cancer.
